TSS Introduces Thermally Broken Frames

Written by Eric Hatty | October 2, 2026

Total Security Solutions (TSS) now offers a thermally broken framing system for its bullet-resistant windows, giving architects, contractors, and building owners a way to meet both security and energy requirements.

Ballistic frames are thicker than standard frames, channeling heat and cold through a building's exterior wall. In cold climates, this can mean condensation buildup, higher energy bills, and added strain on HVAC systems.

TSS’ thermally broken framing system (650 TB) has a non-conductive barrier between the interior and exterior sections to prevent heat or cold transfer. It’s available in configurations that can be tested to UL 752 Levels 3 through 8, making it ideal for a wide range of applications, from schools and government buildings to healthcare facilities and corporate campuses.

It also meets ASTM E283 and ASTM E331 standards for air and water penetration.

We've had contractors and architects asking for this for a while now, especially in areas of the country that are prone to extreme temperatures. We’re also seeing more architects looking for framing that helps them improve energy efficiency as they replace standard windows and frames with those tested against industry standards for bullet resistance.

TSS anticipates interest in thermally broken frames will grow through the winter months, as building owners in colder climates start to feel the cost of running standard ballistic frames through freeze-thaw cycles.

Once the temperature drops, people notice their energy bills and they notice the condensation on their windows.

TSS fabricates the thermally broken frame in-house at its Michigan and California facilities and can support projects from spec through installation.
