Cleaning and sanitizing your Total Security Solutions bulletproof barrier protects your investment and keeps it well-maintained. Our bulletproof glass products can be made up from many different types of materials, with some of the most popular being acrylic and laminated polycarbonate, to create physical barriers that provide Safety + AestheticsTM.
Unknowing employees may assume they can clean these surfaces like any other glass surface, but these surfaces require different cleaning solutions. To keep them from being damaged, make sure your cleaning staff knows the best process and products to use.
Cleaning Products For Bulletproof Surfaces
Common household and commercial cleaning products such as Windex or Clorox are not safe to use. Avoid any strong solvents such as acetone, lacquer thinner, carbon tetrachloride, MEK, chlorinated solvents, or other scouring compounds.
All acrylic/polycarbonate materials have microscopic fractures in them, but they are not visible to the naked eye and don’t affect the overall structure. When products like ammonia or bleach come in contact with these fractures, the surface begins to craze, and small cracks can spread across the surface.
Warm water with mild soap works best to clean the glass surface. To disinfect, use diluted hydrogen peroxide, isopropyl alcohol, or one of our other recommended products.
Cleaning Materials For Bulletproof Surfaces
Be sure to use the recommended cleaning materials for your product and installation. Paper towels, scrub brushes, or brooms could all leave scratches that mar the surface of your bulletproof glass. Soft, lint-free cloth, chamois, or microfiber cloths are safe to clean and sanitize the surfaces.
Recommended Cleaning Process For Bulletproof Surfaces
First, dust your surfaces with a soft, lint-free cloth. Then, flush the glazing with clean water to remove any loose abrasive particles. The surface can be gently washed with a mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water solution. Always dry with a clean damp chamois or soft/microfiber cloth.
To sanitize or disinfect the surface, use only approved cleaners or disinfectants as noted in our recommendations.
