When a civil engineering firm needed to design bulletproof features for an urban retail space, FTCH knew just who to call. With the help of TSS' experienced team, they designed a bulletproof counter area, including ballistic doors, to keep the client's public-facing team protected.
The Problem: Custom Requirements for Bulletproof Storefront
FTCH Senior Architect Matthew Riegler was engaged by a recurring client to design a retail space with custom bullet-resistant security barriers that could accommodate flexible security access based on the time of day and environmental factors. The client was concerned with employee safety and wanted to make sure that any safety features could withstand the environmental factors present in a densely populated urban area.

When TSS was contacted about the project, FTCH had a minimalist floor design. After some initial discovery, our teams collaborated to flesh out the project. Our team asked the right questions to provide the best recommendations based on our extensive experience in the retail industry.
DESIGN & ENGINEERING
Throughout the project, Total Security Solutions provided design and system documentation based on FTCH prototype floor plans. Because Riegler involved TSS experts early, he modified the design with specific bullet-resistant barrier elements, delivering a superior solution that exceeded the client's needs and expectations.
FABRICATION & ASSEMBLY
The TSS team coordinated fabrication with both owner-supplied millwork and exterior glazing systems. Since bulletproof materials are difficult to modify in the field, we worked closely with everyone involved to ensure every measurement was accurate and that there would be no surprises at installation.
Delivery & Installation
Transaction Windows & Accessories
Thanks to careful preparation and attention to detail, installation was a breeze. Our team worked overnight so as not to disrupt business operations. The completed system includes baffle-style transaction windows for clear sound transmission, recessed currency trays, a Lazy Susan exterior package passer, bulletproof glass, and bulletproof fiberglass in the counter and kick spaces. A bulletproof door provides secure access to employee-only areas.
