When you need robust, practical bulletproof security, look to bulletproof steel doors.
Our commercial bulletproof doors are fabricated with 16-gauge cold rolled steel and hung on a steel frame for maximum protection.
These commercial doors are opaque and powerful, best used for facilities with higher threat levels or businesses that need to communicate a feeling of extreme safety for employees and visitors. Offering the highest levels of bulletproof protection, steel doors (from exterior security doors to interior doors) help you maintain both an impression of tight security and real protection from serious assaults.Steel doors from TSS come prime painted in gray in these standard sizes:
TSS has extensive custom capabilities and can create your bulletproof steel door with additional colors, sizes, and double door options upon request. Our engineers will work with you to establish the right fit for your bulletproof system so it blends seamlessly with your existing architecture.
Standard door hardware consists of a heavy-duty continuous hinge, overhead surface closer, lever lockset, and an anti-jimmy plate as needed. Not only will your bulletproof steel door be able to stand up to bullets, it’s built to withstand constant use. Our commercial security doors resist sagging and other wear and tear over time, as the hardware is robust enough to withstand the weight of the door.

TSS offers two finish options for our steel doors. The standard finish is a gray primer paint, allowing the door to be painted on-site to match surrounding finishes. For a more decorative look, we also offer the option to factory-apply a wood-grain architectural film, giving the steel door the warm appearance of real wood. A variety of wood-grain styles are available. Contact us for more details.

Yes! Steel doors from TSS are designed to resist bullets, making them bulletproof. Our steel doors are tested according to standards for UL Levels 1-8. Most businesses’ risk threat level requires lower bulletproof protection levels from their barriers. However, if your security needs call for a steel barrier tested to Level 8, you can rest easy knowing that not even an attack from common high-powered rifles can penetrate your system.
We also offer fire-rated door options with sixty (60) or ninety (90) minute UL 10C ratings.

Whether you’d like more detailed information before you make a purchase or to understand the engineering aspects of ballistic doors, from metal doors to wood doors, our free Ballistic Doors Solutions Guide is a helpful resource you won’t want to miss out on.
Standard security steel doors are made with thin steel and foam cores. They’re designed to resist forced entry but aren’t tested to stop bullets. These doors are typically lightweight and mass-produced.
Bulletproof steel doors are built with reinforced materials like ballistic fiberglass or steel cores and may include bullet-resistant glass. They’re tested to ballistic standards and often require heavy-duty frames and hinges to support the added weight.
A bulletproof steel door should be tested and certified to a ballistic standard—most commonly UL 752. This standard confirms that the door can stop a specific number of shots from specific firearms.
For example, a UL 752 Level 3 door must stop three rounds from a .44 Magnum. Verified certification from a third-party lab is the only reliable way to confirm that a door provides true ballistic protection.
Not necessarily. While a bulletproof steel door may slow down a forced entry attempt, most are not tested or rated for it. Ballistic doors are designed to stop bullets, not crowbars, sledgehammers, or other tools used to gain unauthorized entry.
If forced entry is a concern, look for doors that meet both ballistic and forced-entry standards, such as ASTM F1233 or ASTM F3561. Always match the door’s certification to the specific threats you’re trying to defend against.
Bulletproof steel doors are most commonly installed at side or rear entrances. They have a utilitarian look but are durable and can be painted to match surrounding finishes. Viewing options like small ballistic windows or narrow lites are available, offering visibility without compromising protection.
Yes. Bulletproof steel doors can be engineered to work with most access control systems, including keypads, card readers, maglocks, and electronic strikes. Integration is typically planned during the design phase to ensure compatibility with wiring, power, and hardware needs.
Because these doors are heavier and more complex than standard doors, early coordination between your security integrator, facilities team, and door supplier is critical for smooth installation and reliable performance.
Yes. Bulletproof steel doors are often part of a larger entry security system and can be paired with surveillance cameras for real-time visual confirmation at access points. This integration helps staff verify identities, monitor activity, and respond quickly to potential threats.
Many facilities also connect doors to intercoms, audio systems, or alert notifications, allowing security or front-desk staff on a commercial property to manage access from a distance. When thoughtfully integrated, these systems work together to create a seamless, layered approach to entry security.
