Protecting Executives at a Corporate Campus
A Fortune 100 technology company with high-profile leaders needed executive protection solutions to keep them safe at their headquarters. This company's security team was concerned about recent high-profile attacks and threats in the media and wanted to convert conference rooms on the executive floors into safe spaces.
Total Security Solutions reinforced existing conference rooms with ballistic fiberglass, backglazing, and ballistic doors, giving executives and employees a place to seek shelter in the event of an active shooter.
The Problem: Securing Leadership Floors in High-Rise Buildings
The company had numerous executive floors that required protection, but they wanted it to blend in with their existing office design.
The project had a short timeline and several logistical challenges, including moving heavy ballistic materials up elevators and into tight executive suites without disrupting daily operations.
DESIGN, ENGINEERING, FABRICATION & ASSEMBLY
Conference rooms with exterior-facing windows needed a different approach than interior rooms.
TSS specified backglazing for those rooms, adding a layer of ballistic protection behind the existing glass instead of replacing it. That kept the exterior look of the building untouched while closing the gap in coverage.
The doors going into each conference room needed hardware that allowed occupants to lock the room from the inside during an incident. TSS specified ballistic door systems with lockable mechanisms built into the design from the start.
Delivery & Installation
Moving thick, heavy ballistic fiberglass and glazing up passenger and freight elevators into finished executive suites was the hardest part of the job. The measurements and photos TSS gathered during the site visit meant the crew already knew which elevators would fit the panels, which routes to take through each floor, and how to sequence the work to minimize disruption.
The installation crews moved room by room and worked during the evening where possible so they wouldn’t affect day-to-day operations.
The Result: Secure Executive Floors
The company's executives and employees on those floors now have secure conference rooms doors they can lock from the inside, and reinforced exterior windows to protect them from a potential threat outside.
Just as important, the people on those floors know what to do and where to go if something happens.
